Stein Hauber & Reuther #460 “Skater’s Waltz”.

The central plot of the beer mug decoration is a couple in love performing a waltz on ice skates. With their dance, they embody the music of love, which was written in 1882 by the French composer Emile Waldteifel. On the beer mug it is represented in the form of a relief image of a scroll with notes and the inscription "Schlittschuh Walzer". The inscription refers to the famous waltz by Emile Waldteifel "The Skaters" (fr. Les Patineurs, German. Der Schlittschuhläufer-Walzer). The composer was inspired by the atmosphere of the skating rink in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. To convey the "winter" mood, the score uses bells that mimic the ringing of bells on horse-drawn sleds. The waltz is considered the author's main work and is often associated with winter holidays and carefree fun on the ice. The sound of this waltz can be heard at this link: [link]
The love theme of the decoration is developed by Cupid hiding behind a tree and a bouquet of edelweiss placed on the lever of the lifting mechanism of the tin lid. Cupid is freezing, warming himself as best he can, but he does not intend to leave his responsible post. This highlights the power of the ice dancing couple's love.

Emil Waldteufel was born on December 9, 1837 in Strasbourg into a Jewish family of musicians (the original surname was Levy; the surname Waldteufel means "forest devil" in German). His father Louis had his own orchestra, which later became one of the most famous in Paris. He studied piano at the Paris Conservatoire with Antoine Marmontel and composition with E. Loren. After graduating from the conservatory, he performed as a pianist. He was the kapellmeister of the court balls of Napoleon III and the court pianist of Empress Eugenie. Since 1865, he was the conductor of a ballroom orchestra in Paris. Subsequently, he performed as a dance music conductor in London (1885), Berlin (1889) and Rome. He died on February 12, 1915 in Paris, a year after his wife.
The waltzes of Waldteuffel competed with the waltzes of Strauss. His waltzes were a mixture of melodic elements of German, French and Spanish waltzes. Waldteifel's first waltzes were "Joy and Sorrow" ("Joies et peines", 1859) and "Manola" ("Manola", 1874), published by him at his own expense, and brought him great fame.
He has composed more than 250 waltzes in his entire life. The most famous of them are: "Skaters", "Espagna", "Dolores" and "Sirens". The source of the information is at this link:
