Collector's mug "World famous Clydesdales". The mug was made in 2004 by order of the American brewing company Anheuser-Busch in a limited edition of 7834 pieces. This particular mug has been assigned the number 6416 from this issue. There is no other one with this number. The capacity of the mug is 0.75 liters, the height is 22 cm.
The base of the mug is made of dark blue cobalt glass. A three-dimensional tin composition borders the mug on top of the glass. A harness made of four pairs of Scottish Clydesdale heavy-duty horses was made using tin casting. They are pulling a cart densely loaded with barrels of beer. The tin lid of the mug is crowned with a globe shape. This embodies the fact that Anheuser-Busch covers the whole world with its products.
Due to the technological specifics of working with glass and tin, two manufactories were involved in the production of the mug: Crystalex Trading/Glass (Czech Republic) and Walker of Sheffield/Pewter (Great Britain). Thus, we have in our hands a masterpiece of the work of Czech glassblowers and British tin workers.
The mug was specially made for the members of the Anheuser-Busch Beer Mug Club. It has the number CB29 in the Anheuser-Busch catalog.
Renowned ceramic artist Jim Wainwright designed the model of this mug and its decorations with incredible care. Right down to the garlands on the horses' manes. To bring Jim's vision to life, Anheuser-Busch has recruited highly qualified craftsmen.
The Bohemian company Crystalex Trading has been manufacturing blown glass products in the Czech Republic since medieval times.
Thanks to the company's expertise, the creation of this spectacular cobalt blue case and handle became a natural choice. Using wooden molds, the mugs were hand-blown, hand-processed, and hand-polished, giving each of them unique characteristics that make it truly unique.
The tin elements of the mug were created by the British company Walker of Sheffield. Here, Jim's design was painstakingly brought to life by artist Mark Breiley over the course of six months. Then molds were made for casting various parts of the mug. Including mounting, cover, thumb rest, base and trim. After casting, each piece was hand-polished and varnished to give it a complete look.
Jim Wainwright graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and began his professional career in the 1950s. For more than 30 years, he ran his own design firm in South Bend, Indiana. By 2004, Jim was living in Bonn-Terre, Missouri. Although he was unofficially "retired," Jim continued to design new beer mugs for Anheuser-Busch.
The 2004 Members Only mug called "World Famous Clydesdales" is a departure from Jim's usual style, whose work is usually made of ceramics or porcelain. However, this glass and tin mug carries all of Jim's signature design elements: realistic illustrations, elegant accents, and meticulous attention to detail.
Sculptor Mark Brayley from Sheffield, who works for Walker of Sheffield, was commissioned to model and sculpt a sculpture based on Jim's sketch. Due to the painstaking work on the project, Mark spent six months perfecting every detail. His models were then used to create silicone molds for casting tin sculptures.
Mark is a master sculptor with over 25 years of experience in 2004. He has donated figurines, jewelry, and souvenirs to global brands such as Faberge, Harry Potter, and now Anheuser-Busch.
