This antique beer mug with a capacity of 0.5 liters was manufactured between 1892 and 1900 at the Marzy & Remi factory. The mug was based on a mass-produced universal form that was purchased in bulk by distributors for subsequent customization based on the requests of retail customers. This mug is one of these products.
The mug features a mother doe and her fawn. The decoration was applied to the surface using a thermal transfer process. In the late 19th century, this method was introduced by British manufacturers. It became known as "Decal".
The use of Decal technology should not be considered a factor that reduces the artistic value of the product. In some cases, Decal was used individually and had a unique character. The artist could create an image specifically for copying onto ceramics. In simpler terms, we use a similar technique today when we request a photo of a relative to be printed on the ceramic surface of their tombstone.
As a result, the "Deer with a Baby" mug is a one-of-a-kind piece.
