The vintage German beer mug "Victory in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest" was made in 1892 at the Dümler & Breiden manufactory. The capacity of this mug is only 0.25 liters, and the height of this rare little mug is only 12 cm. However, the value of this miniature lies in the fact that it is considered to be the bearer of the #332 form, which completed an almost ten-year-long historical series of mugs produced by Dümler & Breiden started back in 1883.
The firm Dümler & Breiden was founded in 1883 by Peter Dümler, already a well-known ceramic artist and modeler in the westerwald, and his brother-in-law Albert Breiden, a turner and technician, who took over the production part of the business. After Dümler's death in 1907 and Breiden's departure just six years later, the company continued to operate under the management of Dümler's heirs until its closure in 1992, although by the late 1950s, the production of beer mugs had virtually ceased.
Let's go back to 1883. In that year, Dümler & Breiden's designers developed the first approximately 35 mugs. Among the first of this historic series, in 1883, the #16 mold was developed and introduced to the retail market. It had a capacity of 0.5 liters and was decorated with scenes of the ancient Germanic tribes defeating the Roman legions.
This was a historic moment.

In 12 BC, the Roman Empire sent its legions to the right bank of the Rhine in order to expand its European territories eastward to the banks of the Elbe River. However, in 9 BC, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest resulted in a major defeat for the Roman Empire. Three Roman legions were annihilated, marking the end of Rome's expansion eastward beyond the Rhine.
Thirty years later, the Romans, having suffered losses in battles, chose to abandon their strategy of expanding their influence east of the Rhine and north of the Danube. Instead, they decided to focus on creating their own defensive lines. For the next 500 years, these areas became the focal points for the armed expansion of the great Roman Empire. For Germans, this is a source of great national pride.
In the late 19th century, there was a revival of interest among Germans in the historical process of the early and middle Middle Ages.
