Marzi & Remy #459 "Bowling Scene".
At the bottom of the central part of the drawing, there is an inscription: "Alle Neune"
(All nine!). The game of bowling, which is now known worldwide, was called a "Kegelbahn" in 19th-century Germany. In a German kegelbahn, there were nine pins instead of the ten pins used in modern bowling. Moreover, in a German kegelbahn, all nine pins were arranged in a square formation. In modern bowling, the ten pins are arranged in a triangular formation. In Germany, kegelbahn was considered a gambling game. People played for money. That was the way things were done.
