In a German kegelbahn, there were nine pins instead of the ten pins used in modern bowling. Moreover, in a German kegelbahn, all nine pins were arranged in a square formation. In modern bowling, the ten pins are arranged in a triangular formation. In Germany, kegelbahn was considered a gambling game. People played for money. That was the way things were done.
