Amber Theresienthaler with sockets

Uit de verzameling van Paulo Vik Falcon

Amber Theresienthaler with sockets.

This antique amber glass mug was made at the Theresienthaler Cristallglasfabrik (CGF). The mug was made using the blow-glass method. The glass was colored amber. After the mug was formed, hand-made glass three-dimensional decorations in the form of rosettes were applied to its surface. After cooling, the mug was painted with colored enamel by the factory's artists, followed by firing in a kiln. The complex and multi-stage production technology made these mugs from the Theresienthaler CGF factory a recognized luxury item.
The presence of a capacity mark on the mug indicates that it was manufactured after 1872. This is because the German Empire was unified on January 1, 1872, and a law was enacted to establish a unified system of measures, weights, and volumes.

The Theresienthaler CGF factory was established in 1836.
On March 26, 1836, the Bohemian glass merchant Franz Steigerwald received a concession to build a factory for the production of crystal, hollow glass, and table glass near Zwiesel. [link]
He immediately began construction of two glass factories. On September 19 of the same year, he received permission to name the glass factory after Queen Theresa, the wife of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria. Theresienthal was intended to compete with glass manufacturers in Bohemia. However, it exceeded these expectations.
