HÜRNERBRÄU ANSBACH - Maßkrug

Uit de verzameling van Jorge O. Soriano

HÜRNERBRÄU ANSBACH - Maßkrug

Estimated era: 1950s to 1970s.

These brewery-issued steins were common in Franconian and Bavarian taverns, beer halls, festivals, and my place, of course.

HÜRNERBRÄU ANSBACH – BREWERY HISTORY:

• Founded: 1864 by Johann Hürner
• Location: Ansbach, Franconia (Middle Franconia, Bavaria)
• Trademark: Crown and hunting horn symbol (often paired with “Schutzmarke” under or within the crown)
• Historical Note: One of the most important breweries in Ansbach throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Timeline:
• 1864: Brewery established as Hürner Bräu.
• 20th century: Grew into a regional powerhouse, producing popular Franconian styles.
• 2004: Brewing operations ceased in Ansbach, but the name continued under contract.
• 2020: Hürner Bräu revived in Ansbach, brewing returned to town with a new facility and modern equipment — still using traditional recipes where possible.

You can now find Hürner Bräu beer once again being brewed in Ansbach, not just under license — a point of pride for locals and a great connection for me personally, as a once local myself.

Additional Notes for Cataloging:

Brewery mugs like this are highly collectible for regional beer history fans and military personnel who were stationed in Germany, especially in places like Ansbach, Katterbach, and Illesheim. I was the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of Katterbach Kaserne (2007-2010).
