Loewenbraeu Muenchen Steinkrug

Merkelbach & Wick

Uit de verzameling van Jorge O. Soriano

Löewenbraeu Muenchen with the “E” inside the “U”

The Brewery spelling is different: “Loewenbraeu” not “Lowenbrau”

AKTIEN - BRAUEREI - ZUM - LOEWENBRAEU - MUENCHEN

Original lid

I have never see before and uncertain of the meaning? Looks like capacity and calibration marks but I have questions: 1. What are the characters? 2. Why, who, when was this used???

???

Merkelbach & Wick and possibly letter “I”

Merkelbach & Wick (1879-1921)

Loewenbraeu Muenchen

There are lots of little details on this one that when I have time, may help me date this more precisely and I’m especially interested in learning about the markings on the side of the stein. I have never seen them before.

My questions here would be:
1. What are the characters, as some are hard to discern?
2. Why was this used instead of 1/2L or 0,5L for example?
3. Who used this type of marks?
4. When would this have been used?

Note: These marks are centered on the left side of the stein, as one drinks from it. In other words, they are not close to the handle like most are.

I always welcome and appreciate any additional information and/or feedback. Thank you.
