Three Tipsy Men

Reinhold Hanke - modelnr. 98

Uit de verzameling van Mike Finn

Three Tipsy men staggering home after a night of drinking. This 1L stein body is 6-3/4" and it's 8-1/2" to the top of the thumb lift, but it has no marks at all. Revised 11/20/2025 I found another like this one but with different decorative bands around it, it is #98 by Reinhold Hanke, not in the BSL. I also found one by Marzi & Remy and a porcelain one by K.M.P. with the same picture. After finding three companies that used this design, I think it may have been copied from an old German painting, but I could not find it anywhere. If you know of a painting like this, please leave me memo, thanks in advance.

August 1st and 2nd 1921 the firm of August Hanke was virtually destroyed by fire, all the molds were destroyed. Its operations from that point were a mere hint of what they had been. August Hanke (Reinhold's son) unsuccessfully attempted to rebuild his business, but he still produced some ceramics at a reduced level. August Hanke died 1938 and all production stopped. So most Hanke steins were made 1868-1921.
