old measure pitcher

Uit de verzameling van Paul Van Eck

A interesting early 19th century pitcher with an original old pewter lid, a pewter calibration mark on the side in the body, a combed body. The thumbrest is clamp-shaped.

The inside of the pewter lid is stamped with a partly visible pewterer's mark that shows one of the patron saints of Brussels: the archangel Saint Michael, together with a letter 'S'. I believe the mark refers to Petrus Josephus Stas, master pewterer from 1789, working in Brussels 1813/1824. The complete initials would then have been 'PIS'.
Since this is a calibrated jug, I'm confident it dates between 1813 and 1824. The use of the description "LITRE" supports this assumption.
