A beautiful glass stein with a ornate pewter lid and thumblift. The main attraction of course is the great goat (German: "Bock") on top of the lid, his front leg resting on a shield.
The glass body is decorated with an engraving of hops and leaves, surroundig a phrase:
"Stößt Dich der Bock
Dann trotze du
Wirft er Dich um.
Dann gute Ruh"
This is a drinking verse, which roughly translates as 'When the Bock (Beer) hits you, resist. If it throws you, have a good rest.'
The stein is not dated, but shows all the characteristics of a mid to late 19th century production period.
The glass body is 15cm tall. Including the lid and goat, it measures 23.5cm.
