Large pear-shaped jug with impressive incised bird and grape vines decoration and cobalt colouring. Salt-glazed westerwald stoneware.
Complete with closed-hinge pewter lid, which has engraved initials 'B J'.
I think this jug dates from about the 1860s having looked at other examples.
Although not marked, it appears to be of 5-litre capacity.
