Double-layer colored glass from the Czech factory Crystalex

Aus die Sammlung von Paulo Vik Falcon

Czech beer decorative mug made of double-layered colored glass. The mug was made in the period 1974-1980 at the Czech factory Crystalex.
Initially, Crystalex was established in 1974 in the Czech Republic as a national corporation based on old Czech glass factories that were nationalized after 1945.
The inner body of the mug is made of cranberry-pink glass. The outer part of the case is covered with opaque glass of a rich milky color. The top layer has an artistic perforation, allowing you to observe the play of colors of the inner glass layer of the mug.
The outer white surface of the mug is decorated with floral patterns in the technique of enamel painting. This technique was borrowed from Ludwig Moser, a Czech glass decorator who became famous in the middle of the 19th century. In 1857 Ludwig Moser founded an engraving and decoration workshop in Carlsbad., Bohemia. Initially, an experienced decorative engraver Ludwig Moser had a license to decorate and sell glassware, but he still could not produce his own glass. He had to decorate blanks supplied by other factories, including Loetz, Kralik, Harrach, and Meyr's Neffe. It was only in 1892 that Moser managed to build his own glass factory and the company's name was changed to Ludwig Moser & Sons, since his three sons Gustov , Leo and Richard Moser began to take a more active part in the work of his father's factory. Moser soon became famous for his exquisite engraved and enameled patterns.
In 1948, the Moser company was nationalized, and since 1950 it became known as the "Karlovy Vary National Society". In 1962, the former Moser glass factory was merged with the Mstisov Glass Factory after both old Czech nationalized factories became part of Borske Sklo in the mid-to late 1950s. Die Datenquelle ist Leslie Jacksons Buch "Fabrikglas des 20. Jahrhunderts". [Link]
In 1974, Borske Sklo became part of the new Czech corporation Crystalex. In 1988, the Moser factory gained independence from Crystalex and became known as Sklarna Moser, and then Moseras in 1991. The Moser plant is still operating today.
In 1997, Crystalex was privatized and is now known as Crystalex Co. Ltd.
After the privatization of the company, Moser and Crystalex did not return to the production of double-layer colored glass products with hand-painted enamel. The reason is simple - the high cost of such products due to the large amount of manual labor of highly qualified craftsmen. Thus, collectors all over the world can only be satisfied with what was made during the short period of 1974-1980, when products in this style were produced at Crystalex in the Czech Republic.
