Vintage German beer mug "Declaration of love for Beer". The capacity of the mug is 0.5 liters, the height is 16 cm. The mug was made in 1906 at the famous German factory Villeroy & Boch. In the Villeroy & Boch product catalog, the mold of this mug model is numbered 2942.
The mug is decorated with symbols related to the theme of glorifying the cult of alcohol consumption.
The emblem, which resembles the six-pointed Jewish star of David, attracts the eye the most. In reality, this geometric figure has been perceived as an alchemist's sign since the early medieval times. Then the symbol stuck to the brewers. This was due to the fact that brewers, like alchemists, secretly obtained a mind-cheering drink by mixing and temperature processing grain. Thus, starting from the 15th century, this symbol acquired the official status of a professional brewers' mark in the German lands.
The next point that attracts attention is the "Paragraph 11" sign inscribed in the center of the Brewer's Star.
The graphic representation of the "paragraph" sign appeared in Germany at the beginning of the 18th century by stylizing the combination of two Latin letters S, which meant an abbreviation of the German word Satz (phrase, sentence) or Latin signum secti?nis (section sign). In the modern world, the sign has become fixed to denote the structural divisions of documents.
In the subculture of student communities in Germany in the middle of the 19th century, the concept of "Paragraph 11" acquired a special socratic status. Paragraph 11 became the cornerstone of the "Beer Code" of the student communities of Germany at that time. Initially, this code originated in the depths of the student fraternities of the University of Heidelberg. Paragraphs 1 to 10 are missing from the Beer Code. Their place is reserved for the ten Biblical commandments. But paragraph 11 of the Heidelberg Beer Code states: "Es wird fortgesoffe". It stands for "We need to keep drinking."
Based on this, the sign "Paragraph 11" and the "Star of the Brewer" did not come together on this mug by chance.
On the central facade of the circle there is an inscription with the following content: "Braun ist meine Maid, Schäumt über jederzeit". Translated from German, it means: "Brown is my sweetheart, always foaming over the edge." This is a metaphor where "brown sweetheart" means dark beer. In Germany, this statement was perceived as a confession of love for beer.
