Silcher wrote about a thousand works, mostly choral and vocal. In particular, in 1826-1860. He has released a series of collections with treatments of German and foreign folk songs, with a total score of about 320. These collections have enjoyed considerable success. His other successful project was three collections of instrumental melodies. Ludwig van Beethoven, edited for use as songs (partly based on Silcher's own lyrics). Silcher also owns the singspiel "The Little Lute Player." Die kleine Lautenspielerin).
Among Silcher's original songs, the song Der gute Kamerad had a special fate.?— "Good Comrade"; 1825, based on poems by Ludwig Uhland), to this day used as a funeral march at the funerals of the German and Austrian military; so, in 1934, the song was performed at the funeral of the President of Germany By Paul von Hindenburg.
