Twist-to-Open lid

This is a earthenware beer stein with a unusual lid: to open the lid you need to twist it instead of lifting it.

My gut feeling is that the stein probably dates to the mid 20th century and may have been made in Eastern Europe. However I have no proof whatsoever. Any insights are welcome. ;-)

There are no visible factory markings.
