This curly mug "Drunken Monkey" was made in the 70s at the Rastal manufactory. In the Rastal product catalog, the mold of this mug has the number 1612.
Rastal had the opportunity to paint such a mug in light and dark honey tones, as well as with blue flecks. In my case, the mug is not colored. This could happen if the product was rejected after the annealing stage, or when a high-quality product was transferred to a wholesale buyer who had his own workshop for retrofitting.

From 1886 to 1899, the molds of the characteristic shaped beer mugs for the C.G. Schierholz & Sohn factory were designed by the sculptor Edmund Haase, famous for his time. The mold for mug #27 "Drunken Monkey" is his handiwork.
Before joining Schierholz E.Haase gained fame as created designs for the Meissen porcelain manufacturing company that were used to decorate the Bavarian King’s castles at Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee, Berg, and even Neuschwanstein, the “Dream Castle” of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. With those credentials, there can be little doubt that Hasse was one of the top modelers of his day. According to the company Schierholz, Hasse is responsible for all of the design work for its character steins made during the late 19th century, so it’s reasonable to conclude that the earliest Schierholz character stein production began subsequent to 1886. The porcelain factory C.G. Schierholz & Sohn was founded in 1816 in Plaue (Thuringia). She has successfully worked there for over 100 years.
After the end of World War II, Plaue city fell into the zone of influence of the USSR. In the early years of the GDR's existence, the rightful owners of the Schierholz factory's artistic heritage managed to take advantage of a narrow window of opportunity to export some of the molds to the "West".
