Reservist Mug 9th Company, 1st Royal Infantry Regiment "The King"

Aus die Sammlung von Paulo Vik Falcon

King Ludwig III of Bavaria, 1845-1921

Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, 1869-1955

In the center of the front of the mug is the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Bavaria. Just below the coat of arms, we see two portraits. On the left is King Ludwig III of Bavaria. On the right is his eldest son, Crown Prince Ruprecht. In between is the chevron of the 1st Royal Infantry Regiment. The bottom of the composition is completed by the regiment's motto, "Einigkeit macht stark." Translated from German, this means "Unity makes you strong".
There is an inscription along the top edge of the mug. It contains information about the military unit and the length of service of the owner of this mug.
The inscription "Kgl. 1. Inftr. Regt. "König" 9. Komp. 1902-04 München" means "Royal 1st Infantry Regiment "King", 9th Company. 1902-04 Munich" in German.
Soldiers often ordered such mugs at the end of their service to keep a memory of their time in the army. The soldier became a reservist of the German Imperial Army. These mugs were called "Reservist Mugs."
