Villeroy & Boch #24

Villeroy & Boch - Modell Nr. 24

Aus die Sammlung von Paulo Vik Falcon

A unique and very rare mug. A guest from the distant year of 1860. It was in that year that the Luxembourg (Septfonten) division of Villeroy & Boch (V&B) released this beautiful mug with catalog number 24. This fact is reflected in the V&B stamp on the outside of the bottom of the mug. However, there is no mention of this mug with catalog number 24 in the V&B Metlach factory catalog. This should not create questions about the legitimacy of the V&B mug presented here from 1860.
The design of this mug was a century ahead of its time. In the mid-19th century, it was not common to change the shape of mugs. However, painting and decorative relief were common. This opened up new possibilities for modelers and artists. The mug had a rectangular base and a circular top.
This unusual design for its time was highly sought after. The explosive demand led to other market participants producing mugs in a similar style.
In addition to Villeroy & Boch, mugs of this shape were produced by the Utzschneider & Cie factories (Sargemin, Lorraine, France) and Dorfner and Co. (Hirschau, Bavaria). For more information, please visit the following link:
