The mug is made in the style of the old "westerwald cylinders".
The beer mug is decorated with a relief image of a German Shepherd's head and the letters "S" and "V".
The letters "S" and "V" on either side of the dog's image have a special meaning. The combination of letters "SV" refers to the "Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde" (SV) club, which is the German translation of the "Society of German Shepherds." This is the world's largest organization dedicated to this breed of dog.
The German Shepherd Association (SV) is one of the oldest dog breeding associations in Germany. Its headquarters are located in Augsburg, Bavaria.
On April 22, 1899, the German Shepherd Association was founded at a dog show in Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg). Max von Stephanitz, the founder of the breed, became the first president of the association. A few years later, the association's headquarters were relocated to Augsburg. The founder of the association established the first breed standard for the German Shepherd.
There is every reason to believe that this is the mug in question. In this case, we can say that the mug itself was made by special order in the period 1900-1909. On the lid there is an engraving with a gift inscription. The congratulation is dated November 27, 1909.
