Hauber & Reuther - Modell Nr. 129

Aus die Sammlung von Mike Finn

This stein was made in the Freising factory between Sept 1st 1876 and 1882 before it became Hauber & Reuther. It was made by Adam Shone & Albert Hauber or the Hauber company. It is 1L but not marked, 9-1/2" tall, marked 129 and has a closed hinge. The pewter lid is made in two parts. The top two thirds can turn like the head on some old character steins. Maybe a painted porcelain insert could also go into the lower section of the pewter lid, I have never seen this before. According to the BSL this was the 2nd #129 the 1st was 1/2L and had this saying (Oh, St. Salvator, holy man, appeal to the chancellor of our Reich to not make our beer more expensive in his hunt for taxes.) This one replaced it with this saying (Give me the beer stein, boy! Listen to what your father says: The Germans fought ever valiantly, but thirst was not defeated.) The BSL also has this listed as only 1/2L. The pictures don't do it justice, the bands and parts of the handle are a beautiful dark purple in the sun light.
