Blown glass with thick scrolled handle applied. Cylindrical shape that is tapered toward the top with a formed foot. The shape is consistent with the Biedermeier period c.1800 - 1840.
Copper wheel cut floral design.
The closed 5 ring hinge, hollow ball thumb lift, lid, and foot ring are appropriate for the time period.
The lid is personalized with "JHR" and what appears to be a tavern number, "13".
I believe I have identified the mark on the lid of the stein...only took a year and a half to stumble upon it. The mark appears to be the Coat of Arms for the Kingdom of Bavaria. This was the Coat of Arms from c.1807 through 1835. Maximillian 1 Joseph was the first King of Bavaria, ruling from 1806 until his death in 1825. Maximillian was succeeded by his son, Ludwig 1. The marquee and regal crown showed the status of Bavaria had been raised to that of Kingdom. The inescutcheon is for the ruling house (Wittelsbach).
The mark was identified using a reference on pages 44 and 45 in the book "Altes Zinn aus Niederbayern", Band 1 by Elisa zu Freudengerg and Wolfram zu Mondfeld. On these pages were images of Royal Bavarian Regional Court documents bearing official stamps that included this coat of arms.
