Shields with Barley and Sayings

Merkelback & Wick made steins 1872-1921, this "Shields with Barley and Sayings" stein is about 7-1/4" to the top of the lid. It has a 1/2L capacity mark, M&W logo and mold #758B under the handle, but no Germany. In 1887 it was required to have Germany or Made in Germany on all exports. This stein may have been made 1872-1886.
Gerste u. Hopfen gibt gute Tropfen.
(Barley and hops give good drops.)

Wer diese nicht zum Trunk erkoren, bei dem ist Hopfen und Malz verloren.
(Who doesn't choose them to drink, on him hops and malt are lost.)
