Merkelbach & Wick - Modell Nr. 1133

Merkelback & Wick made steins 1872-1921, it's about 8-1/8" tall, has a 1/2L capacity mark and a M&W logo on the base, but no Germany or mold number. Not listed by name on this stein, but it sure looks like Sir John Falstaff. One of the most famous comic characters in all English literature, appearing in four of Shakespeare's plays and later in Giuseppe Vends opera Falstaff, first staged in 1893. In 1887 it was required to have Germany or Made in Germany on all exports. This stein may have been made 1872-1886.
