Early Freising factory, pre-Hauber & Reuther, robust-bodied character stein. Made by Schön & Hauber or Albert Hauber Sept 1,1876 to late 1881. They used a 4 or 5mm size mold number (61). The "L" in the capacity mark does not have a serif (horizontal top line) until 1882 when it became Hauber & Ruther. Designed by Albert Hauber. It's about 8" tall. Many of the early character steins did not have a thumblift. Looking at the base on the lower left side is an "H" I don't think it's a logo for the Hauber Co. It's probably a quality mark, there is also a designer's mark. This #61 body has been seen with a Nun head and four Monk heads. There is another Monk head without a beard that is very similar, the hair and the skull caps are in a slightly different position.
