B.. Moerbeek Jr. advertising stein

Aus die Sammlung von Paul Van Eck

B. Moerbeek Jr. was a company located in Amsterdam. In the 19th and early 20th century it was one of the main beer- and waterdealers in the Netherlands. They sold beer to restaurants and bars.

This stoneware stein is advertising beer sold in syphons.

Text on the stein's front reads "B. Moerbeek Jr. Bier op syphons"

The stein will date to the last quarter of the 19th century, around 1870 ~ 1890. The base is not marked but we can assume it was made in the westerwald region.

Judging by the volume markings, this is the Marzi & Remy factory. As for the production date, I think it's more like 1900-1910. The volume markings are deliberately moved forward, in the style of steins from the 1870s, but I've never seen a single stein from that era with a 0.5 marking on the front; it was always 1/2. I'm sure this is simply a stylization.
