A stoneware stein, commemorating an event that took place on 19 June 1912. The nature of that event, sadly, is not known until now. If anybody has a clue what it may be celebrating, let me know.

The base of the stein is marked "v. E", also cold painted, which most likely indicates the artist of the decoration. Since my name is Paul van Eck, the "v. E" has a nice ring to it ('von Eck' / 'van Eck'). I'm pretty sure though I cannot be trusted to do such decorating work.. ;-)

The stein itself is a standard 1 liter gray body. On top of the handle is a small hole where a pewter lid could be attached, but this stein may well have been sold without it's lid.
The decoration on the stein body is cold-painted. It has the date "19 juni 1912" (19 June 1912), which is a perfect indication of it's age of course.

The emblem on the front of the stein is unknow to me. It may be a ficticious label, but it may also be a brand label of some sort. If the emblem is recognised by someone, we're well on our way to determine what the celebration was all about.

Anyway, the decoration is what sold the stein to me. I hope that one day I will find out more about who decorated it and why.
