18th century Westerwald stein


From the collection of Paul Van Eck


A westerwald stein, produced in the last quarter of the 18th century (circa 1780).

The stein is decorated in two different techniques. One is the so-called 'Knibis'-method, where lines are scratched into the clay. The other is by using a stamp (to create the bird images around the body.
