puzzle mug

From the collection of Paul Van Eck

A porcelain puzzle mug, produced in the 2nd half of the 20th century, probably in the 1980's or 1990's.
This porcelain puzzle stein is decorated (transfer print) with a picture of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, as well as pictures of 4 famous landmarks in Bavaria (Schloss Neustein, Hohenschwangau, Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof.

The base of this puzzle mug has a so-called litopane, which is a picture created by the translucent properties of porcelain. By varying the thickness of the material, a picture can be created which can be seen when holding the image in front of a light. In this case the litopane is a risque picture of a scarcely dressed woman.

A puzzle mug is a mug with holes in it. At first glance it seems impossible to drink from this mug without spilling the contents and getting wet. But there is a way it can be done.. And the challenge of course is to find out how.. that's the puzzle.. Prosit and good luck!
